You've been told a leather bag costs either $39.99 or $1,200. That's not the whole market
Top-grain cowhide, stated on every product page

WHY WE CREATED CUIRAE
Two options. Both of them are bad
At one end: $800, $1,200, $3,000. Some of that money buys better leather.
Most of it buys a logo, a lease on a nice street, and a campaign shot with someone who has never carried the bag.
At the other end: $39.99 "genuine leather."
That phrase isn't a grade. It's a marketing term that can legally describe the cheapest leather sold.
You have probably been told those are your choices
They aren't.
There is a band - roughly $100 to $200 - where a bag can still be real top-grain cowhide, reinforced where bags actually fail, without anyone charging you for a celebrity.
Everything we sell sits inside that band. Our bags run $98 to $198.
How Cuirae Started
I bought five bags in two years. All of them failed.
That question cost me the next year. I read tannery specifications. I cut open the bags I already owned.
Two things I learned are the reason this store exists:
"Genuine leather" isn't a grade. It's a phrase.
It can legally describe the cheapest leather on the market.
Bags don't fail randomly.
They fail at the strap anchor, the zipper, and the corners. The three places that are cheapest to
get wrong, and hardest to see in a photo.
I didn't find a magical factory. I found a way to tell what I was looking at.
So now I sell bags I can describe in full - and I write down the specifications before I write down the adjectives.
You'll notice there's no founder photo on this page. We'd rather you judge us on the specification block on every product page, the six-point check every order goes through, and a return policy we actually honor.
HOW WE DECIDE WHAT TO SELL
Cuirae is not a factory, and we don't pretend to be one.
I'm an independent operator. I choose every style we carry.
A style gets listed only if I can state its specifications completely:
- the leather grade
- the dimensions, in cm and inches
- the empty weight
- the interior layout
- the hardware
If I can't answer a question about a bag, it doesn't go on the site.
"You said a $180 bag fell apart. Some of yours cost the same. Why would yours be any different?"
That's a fair question. I'd ask it too.
I'm not going to answer it with a story. You've read stories.
Here are three things you can check before you spend anything:
Every product page states the leather grade, the dimensions in cm and inches, the empty weight, the lining, the closure, and the exact internal pocket layout.
Not a summary - the list.
Where a style uses a plastic component instead of a metal one, the page says plastic.
One of ours does - the Pebbled Leather Bucket Bag with Smart Pockets.
Where the hardware is YKK, the page names YKK.
Soft Leather Barrel Crossbody Bag.
If those three things aren't enough to convince you, don't buy.
That's a real answer, and it's the only one I have.

A six-point check before your bag ships. Every order, not a sample.
Your order doesn't ship out of a warehouse.
It comes to me first. I open it, run the six points below, and only then does it go out to the courier.
That's why processing takes a few days instead of a few hours. The trade is deliberate.
If a bag fails any line on that list, it doesn't ship - and you get a full refund.
